Real Name: Ethan Quinn
Codename: Hatter (or 'Mad Hatter)
PB: Sebastian Stan
Age: 31
Unit & Position: Wonderland || Field Operative+Strategist
Skill set: Close Combat (street style), hand knives, and firearms.
Backstory: Like every other young delinquent, Ethan came from a broken home. Sob story short, his mom died when he was about three from cancer, and dad just hit the bottle more than he should have. But he hit Ethan just as much as he hit the bottle. You can only back someone into a corner for so long until they snap though, and that's exactly what Ethan did.
Around the age of fifteen Ethan and his dad got into a fight so brutal the neighbors called the cops. Due to the obvious physical injury of his son, they removed him from Mr. Quinn's custody. The foster home life wasn't suiting, and it did nothing for Ethan's already hardened surface. Unable to take direction or connect with his foster homes, he paid little attention to their agenda, or anything school related. He found refuge in gangs and the street culture. No one was looking to tell him what to do or beat him there. No, it was every man for himself, they made their own way, and didn't take any shit from anyone. He started getting arrested for trivial things like stealing. But that kid stuff was all for fun, to test out methods. What really got him into trouble were the fights. Arrested on several charges of brutality, Ethan has...less than conventional ways of harming people, and he makes a mess. Get yourself a fancy psychologist and they'd tell you it was because he was projecting his anger out on his victims. Ask him personally? He'd say they were probably right, either way, it felt pretty damn good.
Eventually he abandoned the need for Foster care and schooling altogether, picking up a reputation and a knack for doing odd jobs. The dirty ones people with a conscience had the problem of doing. Or the ones some folks used as bitter revenge. They had a problem, and Ethan was the bulldog sent in to collect the head. He got bored with all of that and eventually took to creating his own little games, making the jobs more elaborate than they needed to be. For being so strategical, you'd think he would have planned for the cops to catch him taking his sweet ass time. Grimm posted his impressively large bail before the pork heads could find the evidence they needed to put him away for good.
Personality: Usually it will appear that Ethan is generally uninterested in what's happening around him. Typically, he is, but it's all a part of that glorious detachment from emotion that makes him perfect for making a bloody mess. This detachment is probably on the borderline of sociopathic. But Ethan isn't one to walk into a family home and murder the wife and kids just because he wants to swim in blood. Oh no, no. He only does it for money, so that makes everything okay.
He has a hardened posterior that is more calculating than it is anything else. You're either worth his time, or you aren't. Expressions come feigned and few in between. But he's willing to be social for the sake of this job. For a cutthroat he's surprisingly level headed, when not working, and doesn't necessarily anger unless he's backed into a corner. Flashbacks from the glory days of old tend to have him seeing red, and he can't be held accountable for the things that happen afterwards. Obviously, he has a thing about being touched, so if you're attached to that hand and the prospect of it not being stabbed...
It isn't all blood and paper cuts with him though. He does enjoy the finer things like a good book, fine clothes, instrumental music, and homemade crafts. Don't you fucking laugh, because it's therapeutic, and he likes the silence of calming work. He collects odd trinkets to add to his DIY's, sometimes he sells them, sometimes he gives them as gifts, or keeps them.
Reason for joining the Grimm Mercenaries?: It's a good job. He can release that inner, creepy anguish with no consequence. In fact, he gets paid for it. Besides, Grimm posted his bail and saved him from some padded walls. Ethan may have a problem with direct orders here and there, but he doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
